Privacy Policy

Psychiatrists Australia is committed to protecting your privacy. We handle personal information — including sensitive health information — in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and applicable state and territory health records legislation.

What we collect

We collect information necessary to provide safe psychiatric care: your name and contact details, Medicare details, referral information from your GP or specialist, and clinical information gathered during consultations. Website enquiries and self-assessment tools only collect information you actively submit; our online screening tools score your answers in your browser and do not transmit your responses unless you choose to share them with us.

How we use your information

Your information is used to provide clinical care, process Medicare claims, communicate with your referring doctor and other treating practitioners with your consent, and manage appointments and billing. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use health information for advertising.

Storage and security

Clinical records are stored in secure, access-controlled systems. Telehealth consultations are conducted over encrypted video and are not recorded. We take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure.

Disclosure

We only disclose health information with your consent, where required or authorised by law (for example, mandatory reporting obligations or a serious threat to life, health or safety), or to practitioners directly involved in your care.

Access and correction

You may request access to, or correction of, your personal information by contacting us at reception@psychiatristsaustralia.au. We will respond within a reasonable period. In some circumstances a clinician may discuss the most appropriate way to provide access to clinical records.

Complaints

If you have concerns about how your information has been handled, contact us first at reception@psychiatristsaustralia.au. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
